The Cheriton Town Council will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, June 28th at 7pm. The public hearing will be held in Council Chambers at 21314 South Bayside Road at Town Hall.

RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION OPPOSING POTENTIAL LEGISLATION TO RESTRICT LOCALITY’S ABILITY TO MANAGE SHORT TERM RENTALS
WHEREAS, the Cheriton Town Council is committed to protecting the property rights of all county citizens; and
WHEREAS, while short-term rentals are allowed by right in certain zoning districts with Northampton County, the tremendous increase in the number of these short-term rental units currently existing in the County is causing a significant lack of affordable, long-term rental units to be available for use by its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, there is legislation currently being proposed- Senate Bill 1391- sponsored by the Hon. Senator Lynwood Lewis, which would eliminate the locality’s ability to restrict by ordinance any short-term rental property managed by a Virginia realtor; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Cheriton believes the enactment of such legislation would violate the property rights of Town and County citizens and eliminates the Town and Counties ability to manage this housing option for its residents, which is lawfully allowed throughout the Town and County’s ordinances.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cheriton Town Council opposes SB 1391 and would respectfully requests that Senator Lewis cease his sponsorship of same

Town of Cheriton Christmas Market, Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting Saturday, 12.03.2022 Rain Date: 12.04.2022 The Town of Cheriton will host the first Cheriton Christmas Market 9:30am - 2pm) managed by Dutch Hemp Farms and have their Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Saturday, December 3rd, 2022, at 4pm. The Christmas Market will host artisans, vendors, small business and farmers for a day of shopping at the town park. The Parade event will start at 4PM starting on Sunnyside Road and proceeding to Bayside Rd thru the business district. Pedestrian Viewing area will be Bayside Road near the business district. Proceeding the completion of the parade we will have the lighting of the Town Tree and trophy giveaway. On June 21, 2021, the Town of Cheriton was notified that Councilman Matthew Yancy resigned as a member of the Cheriton Town Council effective immediately. The town would like to wish him well and thank him for his years of service.
The Town council will begin considering a replacement in the coming weeks and would like to welcome letters of interest from qualified residents who wish to be considered. The qualified candidate will serve until the special election which is scheduled for November. Anyone interested should submit a letter and qualifications to the Town Manager at townofcheriton@aol.com by Monday July12th, 2021.
